Hey Wendell! So sorry to hear you haven’t quite solved that nutrition problem during racing conditions. I’m still struggling a bit with that issue too. Best of luck in finding a solution.

I too was doing fairly well (though I missed the start by about 40 secs and therefore never caught up with your paceline) until after about 70 miles, I took a turn too fast, hit gravel and went down hard. Hurt my elbow, hip, knee, and hand (mostly road rash and bruises), but my elbow bled, bruised, and swelled quite badly, and now I think it’s infected. Anyway, within 5 or 8 miles of that, I developed incapacitating cramps (mostly anterio-lateral thigh muscles) that caused me to stop at least 20 times over the next 120 miles or so. This has been a speed destroying scourge on all of my last 5 races or so. I ended up limping in after dark — and dead last. Instead of my goal of 17+ mph, I ended up with a very disappointing 13.7 mph average.

Great to hear the first update and can’t wait for the rest of the season! So is the around the world trip on the “to-do list” now!!! Might want to run that by mom first! hahahaha just tell her there would be lots of dead relatives to look up! Anyway, great job on your first race, keep it up. Oh, and I agree with Mr. Clum about the menu.

Hey, glad to hear from the down south two-wheeler. I was beginning to think you had succumbed to the cold weather in FL. The new menu sounds much more inviting than the “power goop” you were ingesting previously. Do you think the new bike gave you a speed advantage? Talked to Sponable about the vinyl drywall on the ceiling causing mold problems but haven’t heard what he decided. Will be waiting to hear from you or him or both. All for now, VanClumski
